In 1845 Charles hovey, a wealthy merchant, purchased a high bluff overlooking Gloucester Harbor in Massachusetts and proceeded to erect an elegant Tuscan villa. The similarities between Cape Ann and Tuscany had inspired Mr. Hovey.
